Fall Tips to Living Healthy

Summer is ending and fall is beginning. Although the fun vacations and enjoying the time with your friends and family is fun, it's time to get back to reality. Work can hit you hard sometimes and the balance between taking care of yourself and the obligations you must deal with everyday may be off. With a new, fresh season beginning, here are some helpful tips that may get you back on track to living a healthier life:

1. Take advantage of the fall season
I don't know about you, but the fall weather is absolutely perfect. It's not too hot like the summer, the cool temperature and the extra breeze is just right. The fall weather is the perfect time to go on that run you wanted to go to when you couldn't because it was 90 degrees out. Go on a nature trail, ride a bike, or do fun activities with your friends and family. It's a great time to get exercise and feel good while being outdoors.

2. Rejuvenate
Whether it is working full time or taking care of your children, feeling stressful is the absolute worst feeling. Take an hour out of your day to get a massage and rejuvenate your mind and body. After that massage session, you will feel refreshed, like a completely new person. Feeling relaxed is the best way to go on with your daily life.

3. Set a goal and start it right away
Don't wait until 2017 for your New Year's resolution. Pick a goal you would really love to accomplish and go with it. Before you know it you may reach your goal before 2017! If it's losing weight, research a meal and workout plan that works for you and go for it. Commitment and dedication is key. If you really want something, don't wait. Just go for it!

4. Don't fall for the Halloween candy!
Halloween is a time where you are completely surrounded by all the sugary treats you can imagine. In the process of living a healthier life, Halloween candy can get in the way. A helpful strategy that will stop you from going all out with sugar is to wait to buy your candy until the day of Halloween. Buying it earlier will let your mind wonder to that bag of Jolly Ranchers that are sitting in the pantry. In addition, buy only enough candy for the children instead of multiple bags where you know you will have extra.

5. Thanksgiving meal
Thanksgiving dinner is known for the delicious dinner you get to enjoy with your family. During Thanksgiving, you tend to eat large portions of everything that is available to you, eating seconds and maybe even thirds. A helpful tip to cope with your healthy lifestyle is to start your day with protein and fiber. This will increase your metabolism and help you avoid those cravings. When it comes to the big meal, eat in smaller portions and think about what you really want versus what you really DON'T want. This will give you a conscious as to whether it is a good idea to eat that extra stuffing.

Q's You Might Have Wanted to Ask a Massage Therapist

If you've never gotten a massage before, you might feel a little anxious because you don't exactly know what to expect. Luckily, here are a few questions you might have had before or during your massage session:

What should I wear during the massage?
Comfort is the number one thing you should always feel. You should undress to the point where you feel comfortable. If you want to be completely undressed, that is completely normal. Being undressed is the easiest for the professional because straps and clothes won't get in the way, and it will make your session even better. In addition, if you do decide to be completely undressed, the massage therapist will cover you where it is suitable.

Am I able to eat before a massage?
It is recommended that you do not eat before a massage since it triggers digestion and will make you feel very full. Instead, it is recommended that you eat a meal a couple hours before the massage or eat a light snack.

What if I don't like something?
Always speak up if something the massage therapist is doing feels uncomfortable or you want them to focus on a specific spot. They want to listen to you and they want to relieve the pain you might have been previously feeling. If you want them to spend more time on a specific place, tell them that. Make the most of your massage session so you can get rid of the tense areas and feel completely relaxed.

Does it hurt?
It should not hurt. The job of a massage therapist is to make you feel relaxed. If there is too much force being put on a tense area, be sure to let them know.

Can I drink coffee after?
It is best if you avoid caffeine after a massage because it can tighten up the muscles that have been worked on. Drink coffee in the morning or drink tea/water instead.

At what time of the day should I schedule a massage?
Scheduling a massage at the perfect time is a great way to maximize your experience. Schedule a time that works for you. Some people prefer a massage in the morning because they want to relieve all the pain they are feeling and want feel relaxed before they start their day. Some people schedule a massage after work to let go of all the stress and tenseness from a long day.
