4 Tips to Get your Family to Eat Healthier Food

Are you trying to clean up your diet and switch to healthier foods but are finding it very difficult for your family to make the change with you? Here are some tips for you to get everyone on board and on the path to better eating habits:

One Step at a Time

You are going through a transition, so make the changes gradually. This is a process and everyone needs to adapt, so instead of announcing to your family that change is imminent and abrupt, start making small changes. Slowly make healthier swaps and stop buying unhealthy products one shopping trip at a time. This way is less threatening for everyone and will give your family enough time to adapt. Before you know it, there won't be any more junk in your shopping cart!

Make It Convenient

Make healthy choices readily available, so they're easier to choose. For example, you can keep fresh fruit or no-chop veggies on hand and ready to serve in case someone is looking for a snack. Other healthy snacks are nuts or seeds that you can choose over chips or finger food. The easier it is to make these choices, the more chances they will get adopted and time constraints won't be an excuse anymore since healthy food will be ready to go!

Make It Fun

Eat the rainbow! Get creative with your meals and fill those dinner plates with a lot of color. Here are some ideas that we pinned just for you. You can also invite your family to pick a new fruit each month and you can explore together different ways to prepare it, would it taste better if we make homemade ice-cream with it or put it on a shake for a healthy snack? They key is making an effort to experiment and allow everyone to try new flavours.

Lead by Example

Now that you are truly committed to this journey, you are going to become a role model for establishing healthy eating patterns at your house and for your family. You can't expect your family to follow your advice if you are not practicing what you're preaching, so do your best, stay on track and don't cheat on the progress you are making. Lead by example as much as possible!
